The Motet Choir of Västerås Cathedral
The Motet Choir was founded in 1991 by Agneta Sköld, Johan Hammarström, who is the present conductor, took over in 2003. The choir consists of 40 experienced singers of different ages.
Västerås Cathedral is the home of the choir and we participate in services and perform concerts there as well as in other churches.
The choristers meet for practice on Thursday evenings and once every term for a whole weekend. We have travelled abroad on several occasions. The most recent trip was to Cambridge, England and in June 2007 we will visit Bergamo, Italy.
The repertoire varies from the classical music by Mozart, Bach, Brahms and Purcell to modern works by composers such as Pärt, Poulenc, Jennefelt, Kodály and Sandström. We also perform Swedish choral music by Stenhammar and Wikander among others.
